Given that the original grossed almost $100 million domestic, the only real surprise here is not that there is a Beverly Hills Chihuahua sequel, but that it isn’t braving the theatrical marketplace. Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 arrives February 1st, bringing back the voice of George Lopez but pretty much no other cast or writers or director from the original. The new director, Alex Zamm, has some experience with straight-to-DVD sequels, having helmed Inspector Gadget 2 and Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts. Odette Yustman (Cloverfield) takes over for Drew Barrymore as the voice of Chloe. Ernie Hudson and Madison Pettis (also in the direct-to-video talking dog flick The Search for Santa Paws, except this time she’s one of the talking dogs) co-star.
